Gold and precious metal guide.
Compare gold purity, metal colour and practical considerations for a diamond ring or fine jewellery.
The metal frames your diamond and influences colour, weight, durability, care and price.
Gold purity explained
Karat describes the proportion of gold in an alloy. For example, 18KT gold contains a higher proportion of gold than 14KT or 9KT gold. The rest of the alloy affects its colour and working properties. Availability varies by piece, so check the exact product or ask us before ordering.
Yellow, white and rose gold
Yellow gold gives a warm contrast to a white diamond. White gold creates a cool, bright look and may have a surface finish that needs maintenance over time. Rose gold has a pink-toned alloy. Compare the options against skin tone and the jewellery the wearer already owns.
Platinum and daily wear
Platinum is a distinct precious metal with a naturally white appearance and a different feel and weight from gold. All precious-metal jewellery collects signs of wear; suitability depends on design, fit and habits as well as the metal chosen. Ask about care and finish for the specific piece.
